What Data Is Written Live to SIMS?

The items that get written live back to SIMS are:

  • Registers
  • Data Collections
  • Attendance (not absence management)
  • Achievement (Achievements added in SIMS will update live for parents in their ‘Achievement’ icon. They will also update live for staff if they search for a student in the ‘Learners’ icon.)
  • Behaviour (Behaviour added in SIMS will update live for parents in their ‘Behaviour’ icon. They will also update live for staff if they search for a student in the ‘Learners’ icon.)
  • Detentions
  • Marksheets
  • Profiles
  • Cover Rooms is updated on an hourly basis (only one way, from SIMS to Edulink).

Regarding behaviour and achievement, if these are added in bulk the view will not be live. A live call is made to SIMS when updating the learner’s screen; however, the employee’s screen (Behaviour icon) requires a cache to update the view.

Note that if a behaviour is removed from SIMS, it will reflect instantly in the learner area but is cached in the employee/behaviour area.

Exam timetables do not work if the link to SIMS is severed, though they are cached.

All information other than Cover Rooms is updated every 12 hours after the last cache completion.  However, you can perform a manual cache if needed.

A cache is hardware or software used to store data temporarily.

There is also an option to allow Edulink One Administrators to run a cache refresh on the Welcome Tab. To run a full cache, select the ‘Sync All’ button and a message will appear stating when this cache began.

Types of caches
When your last cache occurred
What cache is in progress

You can run another cache if a cache is running by clicking on the type of cache you would like to run and then tick ‘Yes’ when the confirmation message appears. This will effectively force a cache for whatever you would like to pull through, e.g. documents.
