Edulink One pulls learners’ pronouns set in your MIS into Account Info and register tags. Additionally, Edulink One will determine if a pronoun has been set up in the MIS (SIMS only) and use the pronoun indicated instead of a gendered pronoun.
Setting Up Pronouns
To set pronouns up in SIMS.net, go to the learner’s profile and find the ‘Pronoun(s)’ field.

Select the learner’s pronouns from the dropdown menu or, if not present, set up the learner’s pronouns in Tools.

Go to Tools > Setups > Pronoun Setup to add new pronouns to the list.

Click ‘New’ to add learner pronouns to the list. Write the pronouns and provide a code for them, for example, P10. Click OK and Save when finished. SIMS will need to restart for all users before implementing the changes. Moreover, Edulink One requires a cache to pull the information through.

How Pronouns are Used in Edulink One
Edulink One works on the logic that if a learner has a pronoun selected in the MIS, then Edulink One will use that pronoun, even if you are using the ‘he/she’ type variables. Edulink One will automatically pull through the pronoun information and will replace the gendered pronoun with the correct pronoun selected in the child’s profile.
If a school has not set up pronouns or a learner does not have a pronoun set, then Edulink One will use the learner’s gender to determine a suitable pronoun.
The following is an example of how this works with our current gender-based pronouns:
Pronoun Type | Current Variables (gender-based functionality) | Examples of Gender Neutral Pronouns that Edulink Will Pull Through |
Subject (Personal) | {{learner.he_she_upper}} | They/Zie/ Ey etc… |
Subject (Personal) | {{learner.he_she}} | they/ zie/ ey etc… |
Object (Personal) | {{learner.him_her}} | them/ zim/em |
Possessive Adjective/Pronoun | {{learner.his_her_upper}} | Their/Zir/Eir etc… |
Possessive Adjective/Pronoun | {{learner.his_her}} | their/ zir/eir etc… |
Possessive Pronoun | {{learner.his_hers}} | theirs/ zis/ eirs etc… |
Reflexive or Intensive | {{learner.himself_herself}} | themself/ zieself/ eirself etc… |
Noun | {{learner.son_daughter}} | child |
Where Can I See Learners’ Pronouns?
Account Info
Staff members, parents and learners can see the learner’s pronouns in the Account Info functionality if pronouns have been set up in the MIS.
Log in to Edulink One and click on the Account Info icon. Teachers looking for a student can use the ‘Learner’ button to look at any learner’s account information.

Pronouns will be displayed in the learner’s profile if they have been set up in the MIS.

Registers
In the ‘registers’ functionality, teachers can see a learner’s pronouns once they click on their name in the register.

Once you click on a learner’s name, the ‘Details’ window opens with their parental permissions. Under the learner’s name, you will see a list of their pronouns.

Once you are finished, close the window.
