How Do I Set Up App Approval for Google?

Google have removed the less secure app option from Gmail accounts. You need to set up an app password in your Google account. An app password is a 16-character passcode that permits a less secure app or device to access your Google Account.

App passwords can only be used for schools that have 2-Step Verification turned ON.

Please note that Google has discontinued allowing ‘less secure apps’. To allow them, you require an app password.

Sign in to Google with the account used for sending emails in EduLink One, e.g. edulink@school.co.uk.

Google Sign In

Select Manage Your Google Account.

Manage Your Google Account

Go to the security settings and in the 2-Step Verification section, add an app password for Edulink One. An app password will be generated by Google for your use.

Next, go to Edulink One’s Communicator tab and enter the 16 character password that Google generates into the ‘Password’ field for your school’s SMTP configuration.

SMTP Username and Password settings (enter app password in Password).

Save your settings before exiting.
