How Do I Set Up App Approval for Google SMTP Relay?

If you have a SMTP-Relay set up with a Google or Gmail account, you need to set up an app password in your Google account. An app password is a 16-character passcode that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account.

App passwords can only be used for schools that have 2-Step Verification turned ON.

Please note that allowing ‘less secure apps’ has been discontinued by Google. You require an app password to allow them.

Sign in to Google with the account used for sending emails in EduLink One, e.g. edulink@school.co.uk.

Go to the security settings and in the 2-Step Verification section, add an app password for Edulink One. An app password will be generated by Google for your use.

Next, go to Edulink One’s Communicator tab and enter the 16 character password that Google generates into the ‘Password’ field for your school’s SMTP configuration.

SMTP Username and Password settings (enter app password in Password).

Save your settings before exiting.
